Psychoeducation Group

Psychoeducation Group in the Aris Clinic Intensive Outpatient Program

Psychoeducation Group focuses on providing concrete, developmentally appropriate coping skills for group members to utilize in their everyday lives. Each week, Psychoeducation Group will pull from a general topic area (e.g., healthy relationships, stress and time management, etc.) and invite group members to use the skills learned in the services of building flexibility in the core process areas.

How Psychoeducation Group Operates

  • Concrete Coping Skills: The Psychoeducation Group offers tangible and specific coping strategies that group members can readily apply in their daily lives. These skills might include techniques for managing stress, improving communication, handling difficult emotions, and enhancing time management.
  • Developmentally Appropriate: The coping skills provided are tailored to the developmental needs and capacities of group members. Recognizing that different age groups or individuals might require varying approaches, the Psychoeducation Group ensures that the skills taught are suitable and effective for each participant’s stage of life.
  • Weekly Topic Areas: Each week, the group focuses on a general topic area, such as healthy relationships or stress management. This structured approach allows participants to explore various aspects of personal growth and well-being over time.
  • Integration with Core Processes: The coping skills taught in the Psychoeducation Group are integrated with the six core processes of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). Group members are able to apply the newly learned skills within the context of developing psychological flexibility and engaging with the core processes of ACT.
  • Building Flexibility: By encouraging the use of coping skills within the framework of the core processes, group members learn to adapt these skills to different situations and challenges. This flexibility allows individuals to respond effectively to a wide range of life circumstances while staying aligned with their values.
  • Application in Daily Life: The ultimate goal is for group members to incorporate the coping skills and core processes into their everyday experiences. This application empowers individuals to respond more skillfully to difficulties, make value-based choices, and enhance their overall well-being.
